Welcome

Welcome to the Northlake Rotary Club

Incoming President George Spencer took the gavel on June 25th, 2009

The new Board Members, and chairs of the various Avenues of Service told us what we can expect our club to be active in:

Community Service: McClellon Cox announced that he would continue the AIDS Awareness programs at our local high schools. We will continue to donate to Alzheimer's through contributions dropped into the blue buckets on each table as well as contuing to help MedShare, do the fall flu immunization program in Clarkston, and help at CHRIS Homes. McClellon is looking for someone to partner with our club for a Habitat for Humanity house and also looking for a local clean water project.

Vocational Service: Lee Jordan expects to have us continue the Apples for Teachers program, the Police/Firefighter recognition, and Career Day at Lakeside High School. Ken Carpenter will help Lee by organing the USO greetings of returning armed services personnel.

International Service: Paul Tom told us briefly about the matching grants we are working on, and one we might consider for the future of South Africa, here in our own country with the Fugees, and in Nigeria, Belize and El Salvador.

New Generations: Wayne Rush promised to keep supporting our Interact Clubs, and look for any opportunity to start a Rotaract Club.

Membership: Wayne Gresham is asking for us to bring in enough new members to give us a net increase of two for the year after resignations. He will be getting out another round of letters to local business people soon.

Program Development: Gary Jones plans to get a broad array of subjects covered by speakers at our meetings. He will have speakers on ethics, literacy, Rotary programs as well as other interesting business oriented programs and some classification talks.

Literacy: Deborah Dyste is looking for local entrants for the Rotary essay contest for us to sponsor. She will continue to promote the Interact "Pennies for Peace" program and getting mentors for the Fugees.

Rotary Foundation: Jim Norman thanked the club for its generosity in Foundation giving, noting that we have 100% Sustaining Members (at least $100/yr in Foundation giving), and four Paul Harris Society members (at least $1,000/yr in Foundation giving). We have a goal of four new Paul Harris Fellowships during the year (Those reaching $1,000 increment in Foundation giving).

GRSP: Margarita Rovira announced that our GRSP student from Poland would be arriving August 9th. He will be attending Oglethorpe, and we will try to have him make frequent visits to our club.
